anyone tell where I can buy the canvas cambium savers the ones with velcro?

I've never heard of a canvas cambium saver, where have you seen them? It sounds like something that could be hand sewn. I'd like to hear more if anyone has more knowledge about these.

Lighthouse Leather in Maine is where I got my rawhide cambium savers. They are basically a 5 inch by 24 inch piece folded over and sown.

He now apparently has a 3-foot long version.

I like the 3/4" flexible electrical conduit. You buy the end connectors and use just the ferrules that go into each end of the conduit to protect your rope from the rough-cut metal.

If you really want the canvas savers with velcro, you can find them at most rescue sites.
One I use a lot is:

First off I have never used a canvas cambium/rope/friction saver. I use the leather exclusively and always. Looking at the link above, and adding that I am not a rock climber, it appears that these will be used with the rope being 90 degrees at most and most of the time some degree less than 90. Just trying to picture it, I think that the 180 degree turn our DRT rope makes might cause the canvas to bind at the crotch. Also, I can't imagine the canvas scooting over some of those nasty snags that inhabit those otherwise fantastic crotches. I sometimes have trouble getting the leather sleeve over them. These are just some thoughts that I had while trying to envision using the canvas. I hope this helps, generating some more thought on your part, if nothing else.

Actually the canvas tends to slide more easily than the leather over those rough crotches. Try it sometime. However, I do admit that they can also tend to slide out of the crotch so you have to make sure they're set well. But if you don't have leather which I feel tends to wear out quicker, than canvas works fine.

I found that the canvas cambium savers worked real well . great if you have tied all your knots then realize you ve forgotten your cambium saver cos you can just velcro the saver around the rope and send it on up.yipeeee. thanks for all your help finding a supplier for the cambium savers . Aha! So the canvas cambium savers have their virtues after all. They sound very good for hiking in to a tree when you're trying to keep equipment weight down. I'll have to try one out.

I don't quite love mine (yet) but I'm getting to like it a lot, especially for anchors on smaller diameter branches up high. It's taken me about 5 climbs to get comfortable on it, I didn't trust it at first even though it's clearly strong enough. The low friction is very nice for ascending and takes a little more care for descending, it's easy to go too fast. I also like the way it "follows" me as I make lateral movements in the tree (if that makes sense).
