There is a very tall yellow pine in my large pasture which is very visible to drivers on the road in front of the farm here in the north Georgia mountains. It is climbable to about 75 feet.
Newcomers to the neighborhood were astonished New Year's Eve as to how a large U.S. flag managed to get unfurled at such a height. They were equally astonished when the flag disappeared about midafternoon on New Year's Day. Several carloads of people actually stopped and got out of their cars to look.
The oldtimers in the neighborhood just smiled; they've been watching me climb all the trees around the farm for the last four years.
The next scheduled flag-raising in the Pine tree will be Memorial Day.
