This past weekend four of us, myself, Wild Bill, Knothead, and Tengu traveled up into the hills of North georgia to visit a previously climbed tulip poplar that we like because it has a lot of "character". The character comes from the fact that at about eighty five feet there is a huge knothole that allows entry into the interior of the tree and a short traverse through the tree to another opening slightly below and on the opposite side of the trunk. Even though the trunk is hollow at this point, the tree is very much alive and its strength unquestionable. Most of an entire day was spent climbing and exploring among the tree's branches and making traverses to and from its neighbors. A great day of climbing!
