I finally made my way back to Kentucky and climbed the largest Black Oak on the family farm. This tree is in the 80+ year old range. According to the family, my son and I were the first climbers into it. We have to think that at a younger age someone meandered up a lower limb. We'll take credit for the highest climb though.

Keep in mind that I road saplings there as a youth. We were encouraged by the aunts and uncles that had done the same. Things change, and the last thing that I want my boys to do is ride a sapling. I'm proud that they both climbed there DRT.

By chance, I discovered and have been climbing Black Oaks in Pennsylvania this past year. What a treasure of a tree!

JimK
