I was down in Utah for some backpacking in the canyonlands as well as a 3 day canyoneering course. Naturally, I climbed some trees too. Here's some pics that made it back with me...

This is a ponderosa pine that I climbed in Zion National Park. I used a petzl spelegyca (cowstail) to clip in when I was at a place I wanted to be in the canopy.
View from the canopy looking north.
Rainbow over Zion canyons.
Spotted a quaking aspen to climb next to my campsite near Cedar Breaks and Cedar City Utah.
On this tree I simply used slings to climb the tree. I took some one inch webbing and tied ring bends to length and then girth hitched my way up the tree.
I girth hitched my way up this aspen as well, and then set the rope at the top for an easier descent.
Another aspen forest near Cedar Breaks.
My doggy wasn't too happy that he wasn't coming with me up the tree.
Climbing a much bigger aspen.
Standard DRT. Using a climbing harness since that's what I had with me. Worked just fine.
I love southern Utah, and it was fun to climb some Aspen trees, as there's not many of those around my neck of the woods. Going up the trees and down the canyons made for a great trip...
