August 11 thru the 15 brings us to another year of Carbon County Environmental Education Center's youth conservation camp. Each year we host a week-long camp for 25-30 kids age 8 thru 13.

In an effort to get kids away from TV, computers, video games and other sedentary activities, we intruduce them to outdoor activities like backpacking, hiking, swimming, Leave No Trace principals, astronomy and much more.

This year I have set up a small recreational tree climbing and rope rescue demo for the kids. We will, of course, let the kids get a little rope time after the demo. (after a complete safety seminar of course).

I have a favor to ask all of you. Does anyone have a child's saddle (or any other size for that matter)that you no longer use, that you would be interested in donating to our center? After camp, the harness(es) will be used in further climbing demos at our local park and at our EE Center.

If you do have a harness to donate, feel free to reply to this post, or contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

I thank you, and our kids thank you.

Some photos of our tree climbing program at camp. The kids had a blast!
Much thanks to the folks at New Tribe for their help.

Nice work Baker! Glad everything worked out well getting your gear together and making the climb happen. It's a great feeling bringing new climbers up into a tree.

Hey, here's a heads up on posting photos on the TCI forum. When you place photos in your posting the \"Img\" tag automatically sets the height to 150. If you delete \"size=150\" from the Img tag it will allow the photo to display at whatever size the photo actually is.

For instance I took \"size=150\" out of the Img tag for the photo below...
