This is an old forest grown red oak that I try to climb once a year since I found it a few years back. The height of the tree is 91.4', the circumference at breast height (CBH) or girth at 4.5' off the ground is 11.7'. Always a challenge to hand throw into, it has rejected me in the past. The first limbs are high but it's the lack of clear throwing lanes that makes it the most challenging. By the time my line was set the sun was going down, I climbed up and had a nice sit listening to a pair of great-horned owls calling back and forth.
Nice root buttresses and girth indicating an older red oak
DRT almost up to the first pitch around 55-60'
Big limb first pitch (this is where the crown starts)
Wiggled my way up a little further to watch the last of the sunset
Lichens and sunset
