monkeypuzzle,

Since getting a Butterfly, i haven't used my B'ham Versatile. I will say that for long sits, the seat batten is more comfortable. B'fly however, is the most comfy leg strap saddle I've ever used....likely not as comfy as the New Tribe..which is lacking some features that I need for everyday tree work.

However, Tony Sackett of Fresco said he would be unveiling his new design at the Expo.. be sure to check it out...and let us know what you think.

Robert, I know we've talked about this in the past in another area of this forum, but you mentioned needing a permit to climb the trees at Druid Hill Park. Who told you this? How do you go about getting a permit?

So let’s see a pic of the Glide. What do YOU like about it? Is it for pro climbers or rec. climbers? Who makes it? DETAILS PLEASE. Not everybody is going to the trade show.

The thing I like about the Glide is that it is just about fully take-apart-able.

The very first thing many climbers do when they get their butterfly is to cut off the strap and tie on a shorter one. Most people are using around a 3/8" diameter cord, tied on each side with a double-fisherperson's knot. I think it's sloppy looking and the knots are just bulky. With the new setup, you can girth hitch a sling right on to the saddle. They sell nice ones made by Samson. If it were my saddle, I'd just buy a webbing sling and girth hitch that on their, though you might replace it a bit more often than if it was the one made by Samson.
Looks good. Can't wait to try it out!

What, specifically, would you like to know about it?

Some saddle info rehash for ya’. . .
For a first saddle, a New Tribe is always a “safe” investment.

My Son has been climbing in a Classic Master for about 4 years now. He loves it. I myself don’t like its center tie in point hardware but then again, I’m not the guy that has to wear the thing.
I climb in a Buckingham Master-Pro. Good for DRT but for SRT a New Tribe is better. (I seldom do SRT so it works for me). Also note that Sherrill no longer sells this model.
I just bought my daughter a Sherrill Elevation and a Sherrill Master Deluxe. I was not happy with the Elevation but I am VERY pleased with the Deluxe.

I should post some pictures of the different saddles for you. That would be the neighborly thing to do, however, lately I have been inundated by the usual Spring-time barrage of weddings, showers, christenings, birthdays, and even a couple funerals, (you know, family stuff).

I’ll get some photos put up of the new Sherrill Master Deluxe soon as time permits. I like it a lot. It reminds me of a sexy hi-tech version of my old Master Pro saddle.
Regards,
Electrojake

Hang tite TeeBee,
I’m putting together a web page with a bunch of pictures of the Deluxe and the Master side by side so you can compare them.

I’ll try to have it up by this time tomorrow (10 PM Eastern) and I’ll simply post the link to the photos here on the TCI forum.

As for your question. . .
The Elevation is a nice, light, quality saddle. It just didn’t suit my taste. Conversely, the Master Deluxe is a pig. It’s like wearing a 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood strapped to your asp. The Master Classic (better known as just plain old “Master”) has a little too much metal and not quite enough padding for my taste.

Note: I’m not going to photograph the Master-Pro because it’s old stock, and, I’m not going to shoot the NewTribe because a New Tribe saddle is ALWAYS a safe buy.

Pictures coming. . .
Regards,
-Ej-

Listed below are the two links with photographs of the new Deluxe saddle and the older Master Classic model.

These two web pages were put together in a hurry so I apologize in advance for any typos (how not hoe) and the Spartan layout. Shooting in the late afternoon at sundown didn’t help much either. There are a lot of photos here so please give them time to load, (refresh if necessary).

Also, to all my safety conscience friends, all these shots were done at about 3 feet off the ground thus the lack of helmet & safety glasses. The tie-in-points and such do not represent an actual clip-in for climbing, it was just a quick photo shoot.

And a special thanks to my Son Joseph for reluctantly posing in his sister’s pretty new saddle. :P<snicker>:P

Electrojake, That is a cool comparison of the two saddles. Very nice of you to do that. Thanks.
Sorry about your son having to pose in a "girlie saddle".

Girlie saddle fact. . .
He likes the saddle.
I think he would be delighted if I would buy him one as a gift.

It’s the “little sister” connection that sets him off. :D
