i had a question, im am unsure what a false crotch is?

A natural crotch is a fork in a branch or limb of a tree. A false crotch is creating a rope anchor or tie-in point on a section of branch where there is no crotch. This is can be done a variety of ways using slings, webbing or a short length of rope and some combination of a pulley, prusik, carabiner or screwlink. There are manufactured devices designed to do this like the ART Rope Guide and the Buckingham ringed friction saver.

For rec climbing a reliable false crotch can be set up with a rated sling basket hitched on a branch and secured with a rated screwlink and a rated pulley on the screwlink. Probably being redundant with the word "rated" but it is very important that every component of a false crotch be rated for life support.
