Dan House Rope Sleeve New Design was created by blakeshitch
I just received two of Dan’s new rope sleeves from New Tribe…and Wow, they’re great! The smaller size fits perfectly on 7/16” (11 mm) rope, like Fly, but is much smaller diameter than either Dan’s old ones or any of the various leather sleeves I’ve tried. Because of the small diameter, the great flexibility and because it doesn’t have a permanent “set” this sleeve installs easily in a crotch and slides readily along the rope. I highly recommend these new sleeves.

I have seen (and used) the original Elliot Su rope sleeve. I was fascinated by its flexibility but was disappointed by its small diameter.

From reading your post (above) I see that New Tribe now offers the Su Sleeve in a nice fat ¾ inch size marketed as an “Updated DAN HOUSE ROPE SLEEVE”. That is great news! Now we 12 strand solid-braid users can enjoy a bit of hi-tech on our climbs too. :)

BlakesHitch, thanks for the info!
Gotta’ get one,

Actually,I have both diameter size rope sleeve.
Last time I bring 2 kinds of small diameter rope sleeve to Oregon.the other size is a short one, that is for daisy rope(or you call it lanyard).
Tengu like it very much.for it is very light and easy to put it into your open climbing bucket.
I will bring some large diameter rope sleeve to the Rendezvous on August if you guys want to try it.
by the way,If I have time to make some short samll diameter sleeve,I will have you guys to try it.
The short and small one is very good for SRT and high anchor.I belive you will love it.

Try it! The 3/4" inside diameter version (for 11mm ropes) rolls up so small that it can be put inside a small bag on your harness. Much more compact and lightweight than the "traditional" liquid tight conduit sleeve.

I've been using a pair of Su sleeves since the fall for climbing with Chameleon. Nice (my previous default was thick Sherrill leather sleeves with NE Blue). My ONLY qualification with the Su sleeves is that the covering cracks in extreme cold (by extreme, I mean minus 10F or colder). Not likely to be a problem for normal (read: non-insane) people, and in fact the sleeve still works OK even with the cracks in the covering.

I can not believe my eyes to read that Love, Nick has no rope sleeves. Say it isn't so!!!

Here is the deal, I know that Nick has to have some spliced rope to trade for a sleeve so email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and lets talk turkey.

Market access to products be they House or Su.

As a recreational climber my gadget bag overflows. I am constantly on the hunt for new products and ideas. Often it is very difficult to find nitch products. A good example of this is a device called the Unicender made by Thompson Tree Tools LLC. Another favorite of mine is a company called A. R. T. they make the latest must-have item called a Spiderjack. Priced at a blinding $400, it will be a while before one finds its way into my gadget bag.

The point of my rambling?
The House & Su sleeve are outstanding products and are very affordable, but let’s not forget that someone had to perfect it and then bring it to market. This effort is critical to advancing the sport of recreational tree climbing. If I have to buy and suffer through ten bad products just to get to an outstanding one like the fore mentioned rope sleeve, so be it. To me it is well worth my expense and effort. Gadget discovery is a part of the overall joy of the sport and the people like House, Su, New Tribe, etc… that go through the effort of making these products available to us common folks is greatly appreciated.

Keep em’ coming,

Electrojake, Now that you mentioned the use of nice tree gear. I was reading the article posted at the (old) TTC site Resources area by Johnny Wong from Malaysia and I saw a new use for the TreeTramp sleeves. Look under Johnny's feet and you will see a friction saver cut in half and used as feet rest in his set up. I never stop getting amazed by how creative you guys are. Nice article from Jonnhy and great pictures. I look froward to being retired myself and be able to hang around trees all over the world too. -> Cool:-)

I salivate at the thought of having free time to enjoy the planet and its trees & people. <retirement, some day, but not quite yet>

As for you, Oldtimer, I know you will be using every moment of your retirement in an appreciative manner. Go climb trees and share your skills with all newcomers’ who might catch you in the act! :)

PS: Thanks for the Jonny Wong foot rest info.
