Saddle pain... help? was created by Nikko
Hi,

I have the NT Tengu saddle and the inner legstraps have a tendancy to ride up quickly and... well... really irritate the crotch area  . This is especially the case when I use the Pantin ascender that requires more of a stand up motion.
Is something wrong here, or how do I prevent this from happening?
Please help!

Thank you,
Nate

If the leg pads aren't adjusted low enough on the back of your legs it can cause them to ride up and pinch. So make sure the bottom of the pads are at the back of your knees when you're standing up off the rope.

I adjusted the pitch/hang angle on my harness to reduce pinch while doing SRT, it's a custom hack that involves extending the two loops on the belt (which hold the delta screwlink) out about an inch and a half.

If your harness is a little on the small side it can contribute to this problem. If all else fails an athletic cup should help.

If the saddle is Brand new it will take a while for the leg pads to become softer and reshape themselves to fit around your legs. Also, do what Moss suggested about adjusting the straps behind your back to the lowest posible place on the legs. Also, observe the way you stand up and move on up and down the rope and as you figure out your proper technique, the pads will stay in place and away from sensitive places.

Thanks guys, I'll see what I can do...

I can't help but wonder if adjustable leg straps would help that would allow me to tighten them around my legs a little more. Right now they are the loose-fitting quick release style. Does anyone wear these straps on the tighter side?

Thanks again,
Nate

Unlike a traditional arborist harness the leg straps on an NT harness are designed to be loose, I don't think you'd get any benefit from tightening them. Try out some of the suggestions above over a few climbs and see if you can get some improvement. If not I would guess that your saddle size/fit is not correct. It might be worth discussing with the folks at New Tribe if you're unable to configure your harness to be comfortable.
