Help- What is this rope? was created by HUK
I can't remember what this blue rope is. It is a double braid and measures 0.670" (5/8). I seem to remember 'Pelican' but it does not match what is on their website and I can't seem to find another that looks like it.
In the picture it is next to 1/2" polydyne, velocity and 12strand. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I tried looking that up... Couldn't seem to find much though. Found a couple of references to the name but no real specs or pics. Bummer. I'll keep on the hunt.

Warning: Spoiler!
It is most likely a double braid. Post a pic of the core pulled out and I will be able to tell you more. (Some rope makers even have an identifying core strand) It could very well be a pelican rope. They generally have a three carrier strand as pictured, but the trace thread is usually doubled, unlike your picture where it is a single strand running alone.

Instead of focusing on a specific manufacturer, instead identify the type(ie double braid),diameter and material and you will have all the useful information you need to employ the line correctly.

Some All Gear bull lines are three strand carrier with a single tracer.

Thanks for the reply. My ends are whipped and taped so hopefully this pic will do. There is a single blue tracer on the inside with the two carrier strands. If it helps the inner braid is 0.45" dia.
Unfortunately I am not good at identifying material types.
Thanks.

Defiantly a double braid, but you knew that. The single blue tracer inside is a trade mark for sure I just do not know for which rope maker. Looks like polyester construction as most are these days less you found a super deal or paid a buch of money for it.

Safe to say no matter the maker if it is 5/8" then it roughy has a MBS of around 16000 lbs. Tie a good knot, take care of the rope and use a 10:1 safety factor and you have a line that can easily handle 800# static loads for quite a while!

Try asking whom you bought if from what ropes they sell. If that does not work and you really have to know, send the pics to the crew at knot and rope supply, http://www.knotandrope.com/store/pc/home.asp. If anyone can sluice it out it will be them.

Tony,
Thanks for the input, I appreciate your insight.
I didn't spend much so your polyester is most likely right.
Take care
Huk.
