I assumed that he was going DRT because the way the rope was over the stub.
Well I assume that if you are that desperate to test your luck it is Ok to climb on that TIP and not verify completely its safety, and maybe you continue to be able to climb and take the show-&- tell pictures after the fact.
I personally would not take that risk.
That other possible option in SRT is that if the questionable TIP breaks down and there are strong lower branches below that will cath the rope you may be lucky again and don't fall down all the way to the ground but only a few feet below your original TIP. Still a risky idea. Not advisable.

Hey Scott B. - I was reading on the Treebuzz today and saw your post there and the comments you got. Now I remember meeting you and your fellow treebuzzer Tom Dunlap in Oregon. Good job pulling our chain with those pictures! I never believe you would climb on that stub. You guys were very careful in your SRT climbs and tree assessments in OR.
