Make sure you use a thicker guage extension cord because of the longer distance to the lights. Possibly a 12 guage wire? Use a strand that can still operate if a bulb goes out too.

Verticle lines using the lights up the trunk are easiest. Lights strung out on the branches are harder to install.

Consider taking the lights down. It is often more difficult taking them down than putting them up. They often break in the process of removal. Consider them expendable if you want less hasstle.

In Kansas City there is a growing fashion spreading thru the neighborhoods that is right up our alley.

Professional grade light strings are lifted at all kinds of angles and distances in a Zig-Zag mannor. Using tent pole spikes at one end to anchor various parts of a long string are lifted up using masons cord rigged over limbs at all kinds of heights and distances. A single strand connected to 6 strings long can be woven up, over and around trees, houses, etc. The more houses that do it the better it looks. Consider it as an assymitical wild spider web.

Using our launching tools Stan and I have crossed streets, streams and ponds with water jugs as anchors in the pond and then rising up at angles up aloft. Once the snow and ice comes the reflections are cool.

Also it is easy to made giant 5-point stars:

use five 10 lenghts of 3/4 PVC pipe wire tied the ends and intersections tightly. Secure lights of your selection along the pipes. Rig an anchor limb up high and pull a good extention cord up to lift and light the star. One house made six stars and set them 60-70 feet aloft and you can see them for miles. (and Smiles)

See you at the top of a lighted tree,

Dan

I was going to use a throw line over the top limbs -- tie in a smaller line (strong) --then attach the lights up and over.I would stop the lights at the top and have the smaller haul line extend down to a tie somewhere on the trunk of the tree. This would create a perfect shape for the lights.Connecting several strands of lights would give a long line depending on the height of the tree.A star would look good at the top --any suggestions on how to get it to the top and also a few balls on different limbs at different heights.

On my street their is a cul-de-sac that has an old Oak tree that at the top is my star. Then downward to the ground are 12 strands to the six houses the surround the island. Each strand is two strings of 63 feet of lights that can be chained into up to six strings on one strand.

The star has a center pole of 1/2" EMT teed into the horizontal pipe that we raise to the top and rig like a flag pole. The star's pole is lashed to the limbs wire bailing wire and a set the EMT bottom end over a large nail at the bottom.

You have to climb to the top but that is never a problem.

The odd balls can be placed over the limb of your choice be using the power cord at the pull line. You can buy cord wire and attach your own ends if needed.

See you at the star,
Dan

Hi, I ran lights up my red cedar, right up the path that I climb. It is very luminated and it reminds me of all the wonderful climbs I have had in my tree this year. I just used the 1/8 inch line I always have in my tree. So I didn't even have to climb to string the lights, but now I want to go up as it is even more inviting with the lights.
A couple of weeks ago when we had a big snowfall, I climbed my tree with my video camera to film the snowflakes falling through the branches. It was magical. I'm hoping for a white Christmas so I can film the snow with the white lights in the tree. How cool would that be. I love it!!!

I would love to send it to you but that is something I'm not sure I would know how to do. It took me longer to post the past pictures than it did to do my split tail splice!!!
