Is my rope safe? was created by Tree_frog55
About a month ago, i flipped my jeep into a nearby lake. all of my gear was inside. the jeep was completely submerged for about an hour before being pulled out. it was just above freezing that day and my gear froze that night than thawed the next morning, then molded. so my question is this: After being underwater for that long, then freezing, then thawing, then molding, is my poison ivy rope still safe to climb with? any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks and Happy Climbing.

I think your rope is probably still just fine to climb on. I would throw it in the washing machine (daisy chain it first) with a mild soap like woolite and then let it air dry. It'll feel like a new rope!

I think the new types of rope gets mold on the outside of the fibers not IN the fibers or the fibers are not rotting. It was more like the stuff from the lake ON the rope fibers.

Psithurism - the sound of the wind rustling the leaves.
