Halloween was created by geofk12
Ive always been a big fan of Halloween. I decorate the house and all the neighborhood kids know they are guaranteed a good scare at my front door.

I've been daydreaming about how to use my tree climbing gear (dare I say pulleys) into my yard of spooks.

I'm wondering what creative, spooky & silly ways our gear can be used with a Halloween theme. I look forward to your creative suggestions!

Boo!

I always wanted to try this, but you really have to make sure and do it the right way. in other words, don't hold me accountable if you go and die. here's the idea in a nutshell: choke a single line around a branch using an appropriate knot. SRT up it about 3-5 feet off ground. bring a similar, but smaller piece of rope that you can use to create a false noose around your real rope, just make sure that it can't grab the rope no matter how hard you try. climb back down and put on some loose fitting clothes (big jeans, flannel shirt?) over your harness and maybe a long wig to cover the back of the rope. You might want to throw on a mask and gloves for extra scare factor as people will assume you are a dummy. Now, climb back up running the rope through your baggy clothes and throw that extra safe noose that you made around your neck and hide any excess rope in your loose garb. Might work better with some suspenders and a croll. Anyway, just a suggestion.

Tengu used to run an event called "Trick or Treez" at the TCI Grove in Atlanta. Hung goblins, ghosts, ghoulies, etc. from the trees. Halloween treats, too, and had folks saddle-up to go get 'em. Pretty creative!

A county nature center had a haunted hike along their trails. One of the naturalists was a friend of mine and we put our twisted minds together to come up with a fright.

Bob bent a bunch of shurbbery and tied it into a tunnel. This forced the adults to bend over and the kids to think of a spider web. When they emerged from the tunnel I was waiting up in a tree ready to swing out over their heads on a belay rope. Bob had made up a spider costume for me by sewing four sleeves onto a shirt and tieing the wrists together so they stood out like legs. I had a scary rubber mask in my costume box.

At just the right time I would swing out, make some screamy growly noise. This would stop most of the group. Then my belayer would lower me onto the trail. Sometimes I would end up in the middle of the group and the front people didn't know what was going on.

For us it was a load of fun!!! For some of the hikers it was really scary. I stayed away from the littlest kids of course. I had the most fun with the adults. I think some were close to peeing their pants.

The next year the nature center went PC and there were no more spooky trails. Bummer...

Strong limbs and single ropes!
