hey there, made by debut in the backyard sycamore on saturday. i think i did pretty well, all things considered. picture this, a guy hanging from a tree, about 1 foot off the ground, with a copy of the tree climber's companion in one hand, and a pile of climbing paraphernalia on the ground around me. i took it slow, made it safely up and back a couple of times. I definitely got some looks from the neighbors. My wife has already nicknamed me the "dangler".
thoroughly enjoyed myself. I need to get with some experienced climbers, to see how its done. I'm in central New Jersey, anyone around?

GEE they don't call me Jerseygirl for nothing. Raised in the woodbridge area, you in the MERCK ZONE out there where you are? Roamed your area as a whipper snapper for a long time. Now in the peach state of mind

I miss the place. Welcome to this place - you will find it warm and cozy.

So what get you into the Climb?

yeah, i'm out in the merck zone. decided to get into climbing based on an estimate i got for some tree work. bought a place up in maine last fall. there is a stand of large mature maples around the farmhouse, with some large branches over the roof. i gagged on the estimate i got to trim them back. so onto the net, did some research, and decided to give climbing a try. once i get some confidence, i think i'll be able to handle the job ok. now to prioritize my sport activities. another gear bag for the spare room.

Climbing trees and CUTTING trees are two very different events. you may want to save yourself and just hire a professional to trim your trees.

Sure it might cost your a bit of money, but it could save you LOTS MORE.

enjoy the trees you climb.

also there is a person from Scotch Plains on here that just joined.

try the Treebuzz.com site for additional reading about Tree Care and removal. on there you may also find an Arborist that is in the Maine area that could advise you best.

KNOW the trees you climb.

STAY SAFE not sorry

Hey Dangler. Your experience in tree climbing sounds pretty much like mine. Hanging from a rope 4 inches from the ground trying to get up a tree with a lot of gear seating right next to me and the instruction book on the other hand. The view from the neighbors Priceless, for everything else including the climbing gear from New Tribe, there is Master Card!

Four years later and a few trees down I still enjoy Climbing and having fun. Take it easy and be careful ! Tree Climbing and pruning gets pretty dangerous pretty fast! But it you plan ahead of time, ask for advice and do not get careless you will get your trees trimed or removed and have fun in the process. Go to the treebuzz.com and read from experienced professional arborist to learn the Important parts of SAFETY gear and Proper procedures and good luck. That is why Arborists charge a lot of money! Stay low and practice, practice , practice.

Warning:
The opinions expressed are only from personal experience and should not be taken as Instruction. Consult a Professional Arborist for instruction or to do the job safely and correctly. :D

Hey JerseyGirl There is another "Jersey Girl " that regularly posts at Treebuzz but that one is Professional Arborist for living. Are you guys related or know each other or just coincidence that both are using the same web name??

Dear Inquiring minds,

What makes you think that only an arborist can be on the TB site and that Rec climbers might be the only ones that post here? And where did you ever read that she, JerseyGirl said she was an Arborist. AS we, her and I are one in the same. no clones here. (TG - the world can not handle two of me)

I am learning that several of these sites, both those being setup for Professional Tree Care climber and those set up for Rec Climbers are well worth my time to be on them and to post and read the information that is out there. I have been made quite welcome everywhere (well almost) and have even climbed and eatten SUSHI with the best of them. And I even volunteer to help at the Pro comp climbs.

All information that is provided is useful, you take out of it what you want and put the rest on the shelf for later use or consideration.

As for posting here that the person might want to use a professional for the trimming work, I just feel it was the safest thing to say and I don't even take a knife, let alone a saw or a power tool into a tree with me. I have heard stories of people cutting themselfs out of trees to often. SO all tools stay on the ground and I leave that work for the more experienced climbers and treedudes.

I do hope that you are not disapointted.

get out on a limb sometime, climb a tree
