What kind of trees at this year's Rendezvous

This is a questions for you southeasterners and for Patty and Peter. What kind of trees will we be climbing this fall? I'm just wondering what kind of rope I should bring.

I got my from Austin and they are a bit higher than that.

For the trees I imagine it is similar to what we have in Canton-MS and at FDR Park
( in South GA) last year. There were all types from Oaks to Pines. Some dense undevelop areas probably up to 150 ft tall trees and a bunch a smaller specimens to chose from. Maybe not as tall as the ones in Oregon (Pines) but not as short as the one in Colorado.

I'll start the list of trees off the top of my head. I'll add to this list after a closer survey in a week.
1. Oaks- white oak, water oak, black oak, post oak, southern red oak.
2. Pine- loblolly, black.
3. American beech
4. Hickory- several varieties. This is my weak ID species.
5. River birch
6. Tulip poplar

Tree heights go a bit past 100 feet with 130 feet probably maximum. There are of course lower trees too.

Forest grown trees along with a some wide spreading open grown trees (hammock trees). Some great trees for some really large tree villages (10 or more hammocks in a tree).

Ropes-150' rope is fine. SRT climbers can bring a 200' rope if you must experience that high pitch. Or you can let the lead climber set your 150 rope. Short rope climbers (multi pitch specialists) can get away with a 120' rope. Flashy rope colors fine BTW- no cops or rangers to chase you.

Difficulty ratings range from 5.5 (oaks) to 5.10 (forest grown trees with high canopies).

Climbing styles: SRT (for those who prefer super high pitches) to DRT
(for those who like the technical aspects of successive pitch throwing while hanging from a rope).
Good place to show off multiple types of gear (gear head) or wow the crowd with just a few pieces of equipment (minimalist climber).

Ambient noise and light levels- in a somewhat secluded setting. No major highways nearby. Buildings have security lights as well as camping areas. Dark areas are available away from the building areas.

Now is certainly the time to get flights. The fuel costs are driving the prices up and surcharges for everything imaginable are being added on to the ticket price; often at the gate when they know you can not object. You are going to pay dearly if you are addicted to gear! Bring your basic gear and let the local climbers share if you are at a loss for that \"extra carabiner.\"

Hello Treeman, Nick and the others that have asked about the types of trees for this year TCI Rendezvous. There is a series of photos posted at TCC web site about these trees at this Camp in particular. They look very nice! Take a look there if you want to read more about it. Some have even been named with Interesting names so far!
I am looking forward to September!
