Climber Finder Map Working? was created by Keitht
For the last month or so, the climber finder map always locks up my computer? Anyone else?

Question? How long after joining TCI, will you show up on the map?

I have the same issue with the placemarks taking forever to load. It takes so long I have lost interest in further attempts. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to make it work on line? Dan

How can I (a TCI member) look up / find other members in my state?

Same here. The map has not worked very well for a long time. It takes way too long to load and sometimes freezes completely.

It would be great to have it working well so we can connect more easily with local climbers.

Thanks for updating the contacts on the map. My state went from one to a bunch!

And it didn't lock up my computer today.

Hi again,

Remember that the Climber Finder is restricted to members' use only. I try to update membership status as soon as someone joins TCI. So the minute I change you from "registered" to a "member," you should be able to use it. If for some reason you're a member and it's not working for you, please email us and I'll do what I can to fix the problem. Sometimes it's a case of forgetting to update status (senior moments, I guess!).

Here's what Brent, our web tech guy, says about the Climber Finder slowness:

Patty: The climber finder works fine for me. It takes a couple of minutes to load, but after that it works fine. It takes so long to load because of 1) internet connection speed 2) the number of members you have and 3) the speed of google maps. I really can't do anything about any of those three things. About the only thing we could do would be to limit the number of members displayed somehow.

I told Brent that we certainly don't want to limit the number of people who are displayed, so we'll just have to live with the functionality as is. As advanced as technology becomes, it still has its limitations sometimes! Even so, I hope you find the CF useful.

Hi Patty,

Sorry I've been quiet for so long. I've just been so busy! Things will calm down by the end of August though.

I think I know how you can speed up climber finder.

The problem is that it takes so long to load up every member onto the one page, so why not have a page in front of that where you select an area. For example, a map of the Earth with no members attached to it so that you can zoom in to the area you want (e.g. England or Georgia) and select it. Then, and only then, will this smaller area appear as a map with the TCI members attached to it.

See what Brent can come up with!

That is a great idea. I know that I have a Dickins of a time trying to narrow down a spot in PA without hitting some place in Ohio, for example. Too many balloons bunched together.

P-
I have NO helpful suggestions.
Rather, I continue to be BLOWN AWAY by the quality and intricacy of TCI website, MORE now than ever having been encountering hundreds of others' good and BAD! TCI dot come ROCKS! :silly:
Cheers.
