I'd like to practice some SRT self-rescue. I'm newly climbing on a pair of Petzl Ascension ascenders with a Gri-Gri for rappelling. I've been practicing switchovers from ascent to descent and would like to work on some self-rescue scenarios. Any ideas?
This would be done with backup on a separate rope in case of screwup.
Some situations I can think of with possible solutions to be practiced:
1. Stuck upper ascender, lower ascender jammed into upper ascender.
Solution: make ascender prusik from lanyard or cord and place above stuck ascenders, create mechanical advantage using pulley or another way to take weight off stuck ascenders.
2. Lower ascender jammed into Gri-Gri during switchover
Solution: same as above use upper ascender, perhaps put footloops on upper ascender to transfer weight from jammed gear.
3. Gri-Gri dropped to ground during switchover (mine's tethered but it's worth considering) improvise rappel, assume no figure-8 onboard for the purposes of the exercise.
Solution: rig Muenter Hitch on carabiner backed up by prusik for descent.
Thanks,
