Self-Advancing Blakes Hitch

I like for the motion of the "UP" rope to advance the Blakes Hitch up at the same time as I pull down.

The problem of the Blakes Hitch is too close to your anchor delta. WHY?

Details:
Blakes hitch is used for the upper rope grabber and is self-advancing.

A second Blakes Hitch is used to allow the user to adjust the distance the upper Blakes Hitch from the center delta.

Attach the "UP" rope with a biner above the upper Blakes Hitch.

Looks like Tengu is the almost winner, though I'm finding this part of Treetramp's description mysterious:

Imagine if you can a connection of the UP rope not to your center delta but on to a biner that has a tether of about 24". You then can DdRT climb to the desired place.

Once safety lanyarded in you then can take the UP rope off the biner and redirect just like a split-tail. Having the two Blakes Hitches 24" away from your center delta gives much more freedom. Just be sure to adjust the distance based on your ability to pull down on the lower BH for descent.

I find that a pulley to tend the lower BH is smooth and I am addicted to great gear.
Once you are aloft you can hoist your goodie bag up on the end of your down rope using the pulley that is already rigged and over your head. Twice the action for one rig.

To really blow your mind I make the twin BH rig adjustable to I can easily adjust the bridge distance for every size climber.

i just tie a 6 wrap prussick above my clip in point, on the "up" rope. I then run that down to a micropulley under the Blakes hitch. Effortless , i dont need to touch the blakes hitch to move it up, it goes up when i push doen on my foot loop.

Tonight was the first time I tried the self-advancing Blakes hitch as in Tengus tips...
WOW! That works really slick. I found it especially useful when body thrusting. It's useful anytime, but most noticable to me when thrusting. If you haven't tried it, check it out.
I really liked it because I have a real minimalist side (unless we're talking flashlights or tools or....) No really, I like to be able to climb without a lot of gear. I like friction knots on the rope over ascenders, etc. Less gear, less to lose, drop or fail. I admit I sure like to look at gear in the catalogs; Sherrills is a sweet catalog. I keep trying ot find excuses to buy something, but I couldn't justify it until Robin was interested in climbing. BTW, she loves the Tengu I got her from NT. We've climbed every night since she got it.

I have been trying the self advancing blakes hitch and it works great! I have climbed on it several times and it is real easy to use.

stay tuned for a device that will eliminate the micro pulley or the second blakes hitch, as well as clean up the Tie in Point on the saddle. It will automatically advance the climbing hitch when the down rope is weighted.

i got something up my sleeve, making a clay model first before hitting the metalsupermarket.

I can appreciate saving money and using less gear...sometimes...

The double Blake's system that Tim illustrates can be built simply and cheap too. All it takes is a shoelace and a rope snap. A little more effeciency can be gained using a cheap pulley as a slack tender. Too often people are using rated pulleys that cost over $20 when a hardware store pulley will work.

This system has been called a 'Mini'Jack' in the past.
